Mission Statement

Our mission, as a group, is to advance our craft through mutual efforts toward a shared vision.

1. To nurture and inspire each member’s unique talents and creativity.

2. To trade knowledge, techniques, and skills and improve excellence and innovation in design, production, and distribution.

3. To combine our efforts toward broadening community awareness of tiles as a medium that is both venerably ancient and stunningly new—a medium with limitless applications.

4. To provide a common entry point for both private and commercial consumers to directly access a wide array of creative and original handmade tiles.

Our commitment as a group is to better serve both our craft and our patrons by creating a dynamic whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, and within this collaborative atmosphere, to more fully realize the individual creative potential of each craftsperson or artist within the group.

The Handmade Tile Association is a group of independent and diverse tile makers who work in individual studios throughout Minnesota and surrounding areas. Although independent, we share a vision of our art and craft form that includes its expansion and development on many levels— geographically as well as aesthetically, and collectively as well as separately. In short, we envision a world richly tiled with designs of exquisite beauty, adaptable functionality, matchless durability, and infinite variety.
